Run the Race Marked Out for You

A Poem on Hebrews 12:1

Life often feels like a race filled with distractions, comparisons, and burdens that slow us down. Hebrews 12:1 reminds believers to run with perseverance, fixing our eyes on God rather than the world around us. I wrote this poem to encourage you to release what weighs you down and embrace faith as your strength.

Run your race.

Not looking side to side

To see how those next to you are doing

Not looking ahead

To see those who are much faster

Or better equipped

Or younger and already winning.

Run your race.

You can, and should, look up

Into the great cloud of witnesses

Who are cheering you on

And urging you forward.

Those who have already run

And persevered,

And are basking in God’s glory.

There they are,

Encouraging you,

Especially when it gets difficult.

Run your race.

Oh, and that stuff that is weighing you down?

It’s getting in the way,

And slowing your progress.

Your people-pleasing,

Your unforgiveness,

Your pride,

Your resentment,

Your judgement,

Your selfishness,

Your screen time,

Your sweet tooth.

It keeps you from focusing

On the race marked out for you.

You’ll never make it

With all that extra baggage,

Weighing you down

And tripping you up.

Run your race.

Guided by grace

Fueled by faith.
